innotek site by shell - Homepage: http://shells-at-the.blogspot.com/ 2004-03-25 - 09:00:38
ummm...no? Ok, just because their slogan is solving computer puzzles does not mean that you have to use a blatant puzzle theme. I come to this site, i have no idea that they are a computer company unless i look at the slogan and the nav choices on the left. There is nothing here to keep my attention either, there is no flow. Are you sure orange is the best color for a computer company? Look into color theory, if i were you i would use a couple shades of orange as an accent to a grey design and some eight point. After all, orange is the new black and charcoal is the web version of this springs new yellow (if this spring's new yellow has been around the block a few times, but if it works their is obviously a reason) and minimalism is always in style (think the old testament here ppl). I would suggest a grid/tech look, minimal for a comp company. Something reflecting of its industry but alittle edgy compared to its competitors. Marketing research is crucial. Who is your target audience? What about this page is going to reach me on a personal level, what can i, as your target relate too? I have a need, i want to see something on the front main page that is reflecting of the fact this company can fullfil this need for me. Puzzle pieces? my five year old can do puzzle pieces, especially an all orange puzzle. Need to keep the puzzle pieces? incorporate them into a slick logo for the upper left next to the innotek name (verdana?). The multilevels of the upper nav bar is chaotic and makes me uncomfortable, uncomfortable does not invite people farther into your site. You really need to start paying attention to trends in multimedia from design to HCI... This looks like your other designs, play with new styles. I don't like it. And fix this damn comment thing, when i came back to the page because i "left a spot unfilled" it didn't save anything i wrote.

.....Thanks for the advice shell....you do make some good points...however i would also like to point out that this is in no way a finished work...the companies existing site was done using frontpage 4.0....I just wanted them to get a glimpse of capabilities...but like i said you do make some good points...
also i thiought about adding in BR tags where ever there was a carraige return...but then I limit the formatting capabilities of the user...basically I assume that you have at least a little bit of html knowledge and if you dont....well your text looks like you dont know how to push return.
